Cantilever bridge

Cantilever Bridge Toronto

Information about Cantilever Bridges in Toronto

In many cases, when replacing a missing tooth or multiple missing teeth with a dental bridge, the pontic (the artificial tooth or teeth) is positioned between the abutment teeth, which are the natural teeth on either side of the gap.

However, there are specific clinical scenarios where patients do not have natural teeth on both sides of the toothless space. In such situations, a different type of dental bridge, known as a cantilever bridge, may be considered.

Cantilever bridges are designed when the abutment teeth, which support the bridge, are only present on one side of the area with missing teeth. Unlike conventional bridges where the pontic is situated between abutment teeth, in cantilever bridges, the pontic is positioned outside the abutment teeth.
